Apples, Greening's Rhode Island (Eco/Heirloom)
This apple was first grown by Mr. Thomas Greening in his cider orchard near Newport, Rhode Island in the mid 1600's. Although it is a good eating apple, it excels in baked goods. Pies made with this apple have won awards all over the world. Legend has it that this variety came from the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden. This variety is large, clear-green skinned with a tart flavor, often mistaken for Granny Smith.
