Apples, Esopus Spitzenburg (Eco/Heirloom)
Thomas Jefferson grew this variety at Monticello and it is said to be one of his favorite apples. It is considered one of the best highly flavored eating apples in America. It was originally a chance seedling discovered by a Dutch farmer on his land in New York during the 1700's. Esopus is distinguishable by its blocky shape and vibrant reddish-orange skin.
