ARCHIVED: Drew's Honeybees

Norwich, CT

Drew’s Honeybees is an accredited Connecticut Benefit Corporation. We harvest the bounty of the honeybee to craft uncommonly fine, USDA Organic skincare products, vetting every ingredient we use to ensure it is wholly natural, unadulterated, and sourced from sustainable farms and ethical farmers. As dedicated beekeepers, we also seek to benefit the honeybee and create a world in which it can thrive. We dedicate 20% of our profits and much time, thought, and sweat to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Honeybee Program. At Lockwood Farm in Hamden, CT, Dr. Richard S. Cowles and his team are conducting pioneering research to get our most important pollinator on a sustainable footing.

Drew's Honeybees' four founding tenets–
1)We rigorously audit our suppliers and the credible peer-reviewed science to verify every ingredient is unadulterated and safe. Moreover, our ingredients plainly higher quality than ubiquitous lower-cost variants. Don't take our word; ask for our documentation, which we'll gladly provide. All our farming partners are first-rate. I'll focus on our Vanilla. It is Vanilla planifolia, not chemist-made "flavor." We never use chemist-made Frankencreations; we bring you the fruit of the plant! Our vanilla comes from a woman-owned cooperative in northeastern Madagascar. To better the lives of their farmers, they ban child labor, honor collective bargaining rights, assist with security for a high-value crop by mass more valuable than silver, and offer the opportunity of microfinance and education. Due to the dignity and security of equal exchange, they grow the best vanilla in the world. Try our Vanilla Lip Balm. Experience wholly natural.

2)We began as beekeepers and still tend about 120 hives. Our experience informs our uncommon empathy and appreciation for farmers, laborers, and agriculture.

3)We are a Benefit Corporation, a legal structure that allows us to take a broadening approach valuing all stakeholders–customers, employees, farmers and farm laborers, the Earth, future generations, owners, and, of course, the honeybee! Their diligent work puts food on your table. All the best food too–fruit, veggies, nuts, and beans! We dedicate 20% of net profits and much time, thought, and sweat to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Honeybee Program. At Lockwood Farm in Hamden, CT, Dr. Richard S. Cowles and his team conduct pioneering research to get our most important pollinator on a sustainable footing.

4)We believe the profit motive is the single most powerful tool we have to improve human welfare. But aye, there’s the rub. Business should improve human welfare. We're here to pioneer a kinder, sustainable capitalism conducive to healthy, contented global citizens. Together, we can Do Some Good™.

Note: While we have strong founding tenets informing honest business practices, we are amid a revamp of some facets of our business, including extensive product development and expansion of our compelling brand narrative. Stay tuned!

Drew
